Rasho-gan
In the story mission Careful What You Wish For, Musashi battles Rasho-gan – Wish Warper(widely known in community guides as the Wish Whisperer). An erratic, multi-armed demonic sentinel, Rasho-gan punishes long-range standoff play with dragging phantom hands, but can be completely disarmed by methodically dismantling his tether and severing his limbs.
Encounter overview & core mechanics
Rasho-gan's threat hinges on three interconnected mechanics:
- Lotus Tether: A thick cord of bound phantom hands linking Rasho-gan to the central lotus bloom. While intact, this enables arena-wide drag attacks whenever Musashi creates distance.
- Auxiliary Back Arms: An extra pair of limbs that cast projectile barrages in Phase 1 and execute command grabs in Phase 2. Can be severed via Break Issen.
- Scissor Blades: Below 30% health in Phase 2, his paired weapons split into massive mechanical shears, unlocking dangerous aerial dives and double spin charges.
Phase 1: Severing the lotus tether
At the start of the encounter, do not rush into a frontal melee exchange against Rasho-gan.

- Provoke & kite: Hit Rasho-gan once and slowly backpedal while parrying his opening swings.
- Stretch the cord: Draw him to the opposite end of the arena until the spectral hand tether lies taut across the stone pavers.
- Sever the line: Sprint directly to the tether cord and deliver four melee strikes.
- Trade if needed: Even if Rasho-gan lands a chip hit while you sever the line, eating a single Hozuki fruit or potion is well worth permanently removing his arena-wide drag command.
Phase 1: Boulder drop & back arm sever
Once the tether is severed, Rasho-gan attempts two primary offensive maneuvers:

1. The Oni Bow Boulder Counter
Periodically, spectral chains hoist a massive slab of temple masonry above the arena to hurl at Musashi. Do not waste stamina dodging; draw the Oni Bow and shoot the glowing red thread of hands holding the slab. The boulder drops straight onto Rasho-gan's head, inflicting massive stamina damage and knocking him flat for an extended punish window.
2. Severing the Auxiliary Arms
Rasho-gan features a distinct 180-degree flip overhand backswing. Strike right before his downward blade connects to land a clean Issen counter. When his stamina bar breaks, execute a Break Issen targeting his back node to permanently cut off his auxiliary arms, neutralizing his ranged projectile attacks.
Phase 2: Empowered grab & scissor shears
Depleting Rasho-gan's first life bar causes him to revive with full health, sprouting crimson phantom hands along his spine.

1. Countering the Empowered Grab
- In melee range: Press your evade button (
B) right as the hands reach forward to trigger a Grab Reversal. - At mid-range: Never dodge straight backward. His forward tracking will catch backward rolls. Always dodge laterally or diagonally forward around his flank.
2. Deflecting the Scissor Shears (Low HP)
Below 30% health, his blades transform into giant shears:
- Scissor Leap Slam: Leaps high above the arena. Execute a Deflect (
Block + A) or aerial Issen right as his blades contact the ground. - Double Aerial Spin Charge: Corkscrews toward Musashi like a buzzsaw. Parry the first pass, maintain guard as he rebounds off the scenery, and immediately parry the second rebound pass.
Quick reference counter sheet
| Boss Attack / State | Visual & Audio Cue | Optimal Counter Action |
|---|---|---|
| Lotus Tether | Red hand cord trailing to lotus | Kite boss away; deliver 4 melee hits to sever cord permanently. |
| Boulder Hoist | Hoists stone slab on red hand string | Draw Oni Bow; shoot string to drop boulder onto boss for knockdown. |
| Flip Overhand Backswing | Swings once, then flips 180° backward | Prime **Issen** window. Strike right before the blade connects. |
| Empowered Grab | Red back arms flare and lunge forward | Grab Reversal (B) in melee; lateral dodge at mid-range. Never backstep. |
| Scissor Leap Slam | Leaps into air with open scissor blades | Deflect (Block + A) on landing impact or execute precision Issen. |
| Double Spin Charge | Spins horizontally toward Musashi | Parry first pass, stay locked on, parry/deflect the immediate rebound pass. |
Tips & common mistakes
- Do not ignore the tether: Playing passively at range without cutting the lotus cord results in endless unblockable floor drags. Sever it in the first 30 seconds.
- Do not try to block the boulder: Guarding the falling boulder causes immediate posture shatter and heavy damage. Always shoot the cord with the bow.
- Safe Deflect habit: If unsure of the scissor charge timing, hold Guard first, then tap
Aas the hit lands. A mistimed deflect still results in a safe block.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Breaking his stamina gauge in Phase 2 allows a second Break Issen on his back node, severing the regenerated arms once more and stripping away his grab attacks.
In late Phase 2, he occasionally suspends two slabs simultaneously. Quickly snap-fire both holding strings with the Oni Bow to trigger a devastating cascade of debris that instantly shatters his remaining posture.
